Report: Giants will activate OLB Kyler Fackrell from IR

The New York Giants will activate OLB Kyler Fackrell (calf) from injured reserve and play him against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 17.

After several weeks of using inside linebacker David Mayo on the edge due to injuries, the New York Giants will activate outside linebacker Kyler Fackrell (calf) from injured reserve ahead of Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Art Stapleton of USA TODAY was the first to report the news.

Fackrell, 29, was placed on IR in early December and had missed the previous three games.

Signed as a free agent this offseason, Fackrell has appeared in 11 games (eight starts), recording 31 tackles (six for a loss), two passes defensed, nine QB hits and 3.0 sacks. He also has one interception (against Dallas in Week 5) that was returned for a touchdown.

Interestingly, Fackrell has graded out better as a run defender than a pass rusher according to Pro Football Focus, with grades of 69.1 and 55.8, respectively.

There has been no word on a corresponding transaction. The Giants will need to clear a spot for Fackrell on the 53-man roster.
