Report: Giants wary of Jadeveon Clowney’s injury history

The New York Giants may need an edge rusher, but they are apparently concerned with Jadeveon Clowney’s injury history.

The New York Giants remain in need of an elite pass rusher headed into the 2020 league year, and as fate would have it, the price for Jadeveon Clowney is reportedly dropping.

However, that doesn’t necessarily mean the Giants and general manager Dave Gettleman are going to race with a signed check for his services.

Ralph Vacchiano of SNY reports that although the Giants do have some interest in Clowney, they remain wary of his injury history and unlikely to offer him a big-money deal as a result.

Many teams — the Giants included, per sources — are very wary of making a big-money commitment to a player with that kind of injury history.

Even after making some adjustments to their recent contracts and creating a bit of additional cap space, it does not appear as if the Giants are going to chase down Clowney.

In fact, even Markus Golden, who recorded 10 sacks for the team a season ago, may have priced himself out of the Giants’ range.

Despite their need, it’s clear the Giants are not willing to over-pay for an edge rusher as some may argue they have done with cornerback James Bradberry and linebacker Blake Martinez. Instead, they seem content to let the market settle while looking ahead to the 2020 NFL Draft. At least for now.
