Report: Giants expected to sign three draft picks on Thursday

The New York Giants are expected to sign three draft picks, including CB Darnay Holmes, to their rookie deals on Thursday.

The New York Giants made 10 selections in the 2020 NFL Draft, but to date, just one of those 10 rookies — seventh-round linebacker Tae Crowder — has signed their contract.

It doesn’t take a math-whizz to know that means nine other draft picks have yet to sign their rookie deals, which is a partial product of the COVID-19 pandemic and the essential lack of an NFL offseason.

Initially, rookies were scheduled to report to East Rutherford on Tuesday, July 21, but that was pushed back over the weekend with a new scheduled report date of Thursday, July 23.

When those rookies arrive, in addition to their COVID-19 tests, at least three of them will sign their contract, reports Ralph Vacchiano of SNY.

Those slated to sign are cornerback Darnay Holmes, offensive lineman Shane Lemieux and linebacker Cam Brown.

Holmes, 22, was selected in the third-round of the draft and is expected to come in and compete for the starting job at nickel cornerback.

Lemieux, 23, was selected in the fifth-round back in April and is widely expected to serve as a reserve offensive lineman, but he may also receive a shot to earn the starting center job.

Finally, Brown, 22, was selected in the sixth-round of the draft and will add to the team’s depth at linebacker and likely see playing time on special teams.
