The New York Giants need a quarterback to backup Daniel Jones now that Eli Manning has retired, and Alex Tanney is going to receive an opportunity to do just that.
Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Giants have exercised Tanney’s 2020 option.
The Giants have exercised the 2020 option for QB Alex Tanney, per source. He’ll compete to be Daniel Jones’ back-up this season.

The move to pick up Tanney’s option seems like a no-brainer. The veteran and aspiring coach worked well with Jones last year and was key in the then-rookie’s development.
The option on Tanney is non-guaranteed unless he makes the final roster, which will account for a cap hit of $1,012,500, including a signing bonus ($37,500) and a workout bonus ($25,000).
Even with Tanney’s option being picked up, expect the Giants to poke around other quarterbacks, potentially signing one or two of those prior to the start of training camp in July.
