Report: Giants’ Brian Daboll prepared to fight for his job with ‘detailed plan’

New York Giants coach Brian Daboll is reportedly prepared to fight for his job with a very “detailed” pitch to John Mara and Steve Tisch.

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll insists he’s focused on a Week 18 game against the Philadelphia Eagles and nothing more, but that’s not entirely true.

Daboll knows that once Monday arrives, co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch will begin to evaluate the regime on a person-by-person basis with his job very much on the line.

And Daboll won’t go down swinging. He’s prepared to put up a fight with a very “detailed plan,” reports ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

While Brian Daboll’s 3-13 campaign in New York could prove a fireable offense, people there believe he’s going to fight for his job on Monday or Tuesday of next week with a detailed plan. And owner John Mara really doesn’t want to endure a regime change.

Although Mara appears resistant to more change, he’s heard (and seen) the fanbase in recent weeks. If Daboll can present him something he’s then able to sell the fans, it will go a long way in the coach returning next season.

Meanwhile, general manager Joe Schoen is likely to be retained but has a plan of his own ready to pitch when meeting with Mara and Tisch, reports ESPN’s Dan Graziano.

It’s possible that the Giants — even if they move on from Daboll — could keep GM Joe Schoen and let him find the franchise’s next quarterback, either in the draft or free agency. That mission gets tougher with the Giants having won this past weekend to fall out of the top spot in the draft, but Schoen has been scouting college QBs all season and will have a plan to present to ownership for how to fix things for the short and long term.

Barring a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles reserves this coming Sunday, trends would suggest that both Schoen and Daboll hang onto their jobs for at least one more year.

After all, if the Giants keep Schoen, they almost certainly have to keep Daboll anyway. Here’s why.
