New York Giants linebacker Blake Martinez, who was a key offseason addition, missed practice on Thursday and was noticeably absent during the team’s intrasquad scrimmage on Friday night at MetLife Stadium.
Following the exhibition, first-year head coach Joe Judge dismissed Martinez’s non-appearance as a non-issue.
“On Blake, no, there’s no update based on what we talked about [Thursday] night,” Judge said. “I’ll check with the trainers and see where he’s at right there.”
As it turns out, Judge wasn’t blowing smoke.
Zack Rosenblatt of NJ Advance Media reports that Martinez is “all good” and is not dealing with any sort of serious or lingering injury issue.
LB Blake Martinez has missed the last couple of practice but he’s “all good”, per source.
Nothing serious, I’m told. #Giants

The Giants signed the 26-year-old Martinez to a three-year, $30.75 million deal in March. He is not only expected to provide a significant boost the linebacker position, but may very well end up being a team captain and leading man on defense.
The Giants return to practice on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. ET. We’ll see if Martinez returns with them.
