Report: Former Vikings first-rounder Laquon Treadwell signs with Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed WR Laquon Treadwell, a former Minnesota Vikings first-round pick.

The start to Laquon Treadwell’s career did not go as planned.

Drafted No. 23 overall in 2016, Treadwell was thought to be a promising wide receiver prospect. However, in his four seasons with Minnesota, Treadwell couldn’t manage even 350 receiving yards in a single year.

Now, he has a chance at a new role with less expectations. The Jaguars signed Treadwell, the team announced Friday.

Treadwell is coming off a season with the Falcons where he had a pretty small role. In 2020, he played in just five games, tallying six receptions on seven targets for 49 yards and 0 drops. Treadwell had an issue with drops in his time with Minnesota, so those 2020 numbers — while a small sample size — are slightly promising.

Treadwell arrives to a Jaguars team that is pretty young and inexperienced at wide receiver. D.J. Chark Jr. and Marvin Jones Jr. are both good wideouts. But Treadwell should still have at least a chance of making the team and moving up the depth chart in Jacksonville.
