Report: Ducks to play home-and-home series with national champion South Carolina Gamecocks

The Oregon Ducks have reportedly scheduled a home-and-home series with the defending champion South Carolina Gamecocks starting this year.

Nobody can say that Kelly Graves and the Oregon Ducks are afraid of facing the top competition.

After hosting the historic UCONN Huskies at Matthew Knight Arena this past season — a game that Oregon won — the Ducks have reportedly scheduled a home-and-home series with the defending champion South Carolina Gamecocks, according to The Oregonian’s James Crepea.

South Carolina coach Dawn Staley confirmed the series will begin this season, but deferred to Oregon coach Kelly Graves, who told The Oregonian/OregonLive the two sides were working on a series, regarding dates and if the teams will play at Matthew Knight Arena this season or next.

Oregon and South Carolina actually met last season in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, with the Gamecocks coming out on top 80-63 in a game where the Ducks were severely banged up and short-handed.

The Gamecocks have grown into one of the best programs in all of women’s basketball, winning the national championship in both 2022 and 2017, with Final Four appearances in 4 of the last 7 seasons.

We don’t yet know the date of the games, or which year will be played in Eugene, but it’s certainly something to put on the schedule once that information is released.
