Report: Dolphins “intrigued” by Utah State QB Jordan Love

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald is reporting that the Dolphins are “intrigued” by Utah State QB prospect Jordan Love.

The Miami Dolphins’ rebuild will center around whichever quarterback the team chooses to feature as the new face of their offense — and that search is going to be extensive over the course of the next three to four months. And, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, a pathway to a franchise quarterback that doesn’t feature Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa could feature another athletic passer — Utah State’s Jordan Love.

According to Jackson, the Dolphins are “intrigued” with Love, but only if they’re turned off by the medical status of Tagovailoa.

“…from what I’m hearing — is that if for whatever reason Tua Tagovailoa doesn’t end up with the Dolphins, another quarterback that intrigues them is Utah State’s Jordan Love,” wrote Jackson.

“Whether the Dolphins would consider Love with their second or third picks in the first round is highly questionable; my sense is there would be a greater comfort level in the second round in a no-Tua scenario. But it’s questionable if he will last that long…at the very least, Miami likes Love’s skill set and wants to learn more.”

Love would be an attractive fit for his comfort in winning off-script — a quality that former Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill did not have. Love thrives when he’s able to get outside the pocket and throw on the run. Creative under pressure and able to push the ball to all levels of the field with ease, Love certainly has the base foundation of a pro quarterback with a high ceiling. And the Dolphins, with their mentality regarding player development, would be well equipped to help break Love of some of his bad habits.

But this route, according to Jackson, is only likely if the Dolphins are turned off by Tagovailoa. That means we’ll need to keep our eyes peeled at the NFL Combine for the latest medical update from the gifted lefty from Tuscaloosa.
