Report: Cowboys sign TE to practice squad as Dalton Schultz plays through PCL injury

Schultz should be good for Sunday night, but the team is taking a look at a rookie tight end who played QB in high school and college. | From @ToddBrock24f7

The Cowboys love to remind their fans that they’re always on the hunt for talent to add, for reinforcements to bring aboard in an effort to keep the shelves stocked and roster holes patched.

According to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News, the team is doing just that by signing Seth Green to the practice squad after a Tuesday workout.

No, not the actor from the Austin Powers series (although that would make for some interesting Mojo Moments with professed fan Mike McCarthy). This Seth Green is the rookie tight end who was in camp with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent this summer.

The depth add comes as starter Dalton Schultz continues to deal with a PCL sprain. The veteran, playing this season under the franchise tag, sustained the injury in Week 2’s win over Cincinnati. He missed one game and then returned to the field in Week 4, but did not log a catch on 55 snaps against Washington.

Schultz was targeted just once in the Cowboys’ win over the Rams on Sunday but left the game in the second quarter after hitting the knee against a Los Angeles defender. While he was able to play on, he was relegated to blocking duty the rest of the way in the run-heavy game plan.

NFL insider Tom Pelissero is reporting that Schultz did not further damage the ligament, and could still play on Sunday, depending on his week of practice.

Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot, both rookies, have played well behind Schultz. Both have recorded three receptions on the year.

Green is a Texas high schooler (Allen H.S.) and a product of the University of Houston, though he started his collegiate career at Minnesota as a quarterback. He impressed the Texans during camp with his speed, but he did not survive the team’s final cuts in late August.
