Report: Chuck Clark’s contract extension worth $19 million, with $10 million in guaranteed money

Chuck Clark’s contract will give him a good bit of guaranteed money while being a relative bargain for the Baltimore Ravens salary cap.

Baltimore Ravens safety Chuck Clark stepped up last season when Tony Jefferson went on injured reserve. For his continued great play, Baltimore handed him a three-year contract extension that will keep him in town through the 2023 season.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Clark’s extension is worth $19 million. with $10 million guaranteed.

The $7 million per season and 33% guaranteed Clark was signed for is a steal when compared to other contracts. Clark’s contract ranks 17th among safeties, according to Over The Cap. And with safeties Jimmy Ward, Devin McCourty, Anthony Davis and Ha-Ha Clinton Dix all set to hit free agency this offseason, it will likely rank significantly lower by the time the 2020 regular season rolls around.

More importantly, the move will likely free up Baltimore to cut safety Tony Jefferson, who is on the final year of his contract. With $7 million in savings by cutting Jefferson, the Ravens will have not only filled the position with an experienced starter but at a bargain considering Clark will still play the 2020 season on a rookie deal that will pay him just shy of $779,000.
