Report: Bulls will ‘absolutely’ address point guard position in offseason, could lead to drafting LaMelo Ball

With the Chicago Bulls set to look for a lead guard this off-season, LaMelo Ball could fit the bill in the 2020 NBA Draft.

With a new regime and a new coach on the sidelines, the Chicago Bulls look set to make a big move this off-season and it may include LaMelo Ball. Reports have already indicated that the Bulls are eyeing a lead playmaker in the draft and Ball’s name has been discussed.

Even more, Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress reported on Monday that the Bulls were one of the teams interested in trading up for the No. 1 pick. It all adds up to a finite interest in Ball.

NBC Sports’ K.C. Johnson noted as much recently on a recent Bulls Talk podcast, discussing the team’s desire to add a lead guard and whether that may be Ball (h/t NBC Sports).

“I personally do believe that if LaMelo is on the board or somehow gets to (No.) 4, that he absolutely will be the pick. The Bulls are, from what I’ve been told from people around the league, the impression is the Bulls are absolutely going to address the point guard position this offseason. Whether that’s through the draft or free agency, I don’t know the answer to that.

There’s even now a rumor today that the Bulls are contemplating trading up to (No.) 1, because they have to get LaMelo Ball… If LaMelo is on the board, I absolutely see the Bulls taking him. To me, he would have to be their number one rated point guard.”

Interestingly, Givony discussed in Zach Lowe’s The Lowe Post podcast that the Bulls are higher on Lauri Markannen than Wendell Carter Jr., which could lead to the latter being dealt for the No. 1 pick in a package.
