Report: Brian Johnson, Marcus Brady and Mike LaFleur in running for Rams OC job

Three coaches are reportedly in the mix for the Rams’ offensive coordinator position

For the second time in three years, Liam Coen opted to leave the Los Angeles Rams to return to Kentucky as the Wildcats’ offensive coordinator. As a result, Sean McVay is searching for a new offensive coordinator to join his staff, and he’s reportedly set his sights on three candidates.

According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, former Jets OC Mike LaFleur is the likeliest person for the job and it was reported weeks ago that he’s expected to join McVay’s staff in Los Angeles.

However, Breer reported that the Rams also interviewed Eagles QBs coach Brian Johnson and former Colts OC Marcus Brady for the position.

Of the 10 OC openings, I think the Rams could fill their job first. We mentioned Jets OC Mike LaFleur for the position, one that Liam Coen vacated (to return to Kentucky) at season’s end a couple of weeks ago. And my sense is that’s still the direction this is going in, with much of the process already completed—Sean McVay’s already interviewed Eagles QBs coach Brian Johnson and former Colts OC Marcus Brady for the position, too.

Johnson has been the Eagles’ quarterbacks coach since 2021, which was his first job in the NFL. Previously, he had stints as the offensive coordinator at Florida, Houston and Utah, and he also coached the quarterbacks at all three schools, along with Mississippi State.

Brady is also on the Eagles’ staff as an offensive consultant after spending five years with the Colts coaching the quarterbacks and eventually as the OC in 2021-2022. He was fired by Indianapolis in November but was hired by the Eagles three weeks later.
