Report: Boston did ‘due diligence’ on Daniel Theis; Robert Williams III getting trade interest

It sounds like Boston is looking to make changes in its frontcourt rotation.

The Boston Celtics reportedly have had an interest in bringing back veteran Houston Rockets big man and Celtics alumnus Daniel Theis according to new reporting from HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.

In the “HoopsHype” podcast, he and co-host Yossi Gozlan discussed what the Celtics have been up to during the lead-up to the 2022 trade deadline arriving on Feb. 10. In the discussion, Scotto revealed that he had “heard … Theis is a name the Celtics called and did some due diligence on,” though the HoopsHype reporter has his doubts about the intensity of interest at present due to the team’s seeming interest in getting under the tax.

Scotto also noted that the Celtics had been fielding calls from around the league regarding rising big man Robert Williams III, but “rival executives believe Boston will hold onto Williams and view him as part of the core around Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.”
