The Buffalo Bills wanted to, and did, sign pass rusher Von Miller to a six-year contract.
If the team and general manager Brandon Beane had their way, it would’ve already happened much sooner–potentially on three different occasions even.
The Athletic profiled Miller signing in Buffalo this offseason. Included in that was the view from the team’s side.
The Bills GM has previously admitted to attempting to trade for Miller last season. At that time he was dealt to the Los Angeles Rams at the trade deadline and we already knew Buffalo made an offer then.
However, according to Beane there were two other times as well: Earlier that same year before the season and all the way back in 2019.
Here’s the revaluation via The Athletic:
Beane recalls the Bills inquiring about Miller’s availability in 2019, but the Broncos were not interested in moving him then. After Paton replaced Elway as general manager, Beane asked about Miller again in early 2021. Paton told him they weren’t looking to trade him. Then, when Miller finally was on the trade block last season, Beane made a third run at him. The Broncos and Rams were a better match, however, and Miller was sent west instead of east.
