Report: Bears fire running backs coach David Walker

The Bears have parted ways with running backs coach David Walker, per The Athletic.

The Chicago Bears have fired running backs coach David Walker, according to The Athletic.

Considering the running back group has been arguably the most reliable position group, it’s a move on the surface that doesn’t make a lot of sense. But, per the report, the team’s human resources department was involved in the decision.

According to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin, his firing was due to workplace behavior.

Walker had previously been reprimanded by Bears HR for his workplace behavior and that a second such instance led to his firing.

The Bears don’t have an assistant running backs coach, which means someone else on their offensive staff would likely step in for the duration of the season.

Chicago has now lost two coaches in-season. Defensive coordinator Alan Williams resigned in September after being notably absent for their Week 2 game. Williams’ official statement he stepped back “to take care of my health and family.”
