REPORT: 3 more Alabama football players test positive for Covid-19

A week ago, reports surfaced of 5 Alabama football players testing positive for the coronavirus. Later another source revealed, of the five players, one was a quarterback, one is a lineman and a couple are skill players.

But on Thursday, another report shared that 3 more Alabama players tested positive for the coronavirus, but all three were asymptomatic,

Even if a player tests positive but is asymptomatic, the mandatory two-week self-isolation period takes these players out of group workouts.

There is no certainty on what will happen if players continue to test positive and have to be quarantined.

ESPN’s Heather Dinich explained how,

“In order to kick off the college football season on time, coaches throughout the country could begin working with their players again as soon as July 6, and required meetings and walk-throughs could start in mid-July if a proposed six-week practice plan is approved by the NCAA later this month.

The NCAA Division I Football Oversight Committee will finalize a draft of the long-awaited plan Thursday, but it has to be approved by the NCAA Division I council at its next meeting on June 17. The color-coded draft, obtained by ESPN on Monday, was circulated throughout conferences so schools could solicit feedback.”

SEC presidents and chancellors voted to allow voluntary in-person athletic activities on campus beginning on June 8.

This also comes as teams have been back on campus after the NCAA voted to allow athletes in football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball to resume voluntary on-campus workouts beginning June 1.

The vote to resume on-campus team activities lifts a prohibition that has been in place since March, when the coronavirus began to take the United States by storm, resulting in the cancellation of the SEC/NCAA basketball tournaments as well as spring sports and spring semesters.
