Remedy announces Alan Wake 2 release date during State of Play

The Alan Wake 2 release date couldn’t be more timely, as Remedy is launching its psychological horror game during spooky season

Remedy announced the Alan Wake 2 release date during Sony’s May State of Play presentation, and it’s quite a timely launch. Alan Wake 2 launches on Oct. 17, 2023, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Epic Games Store.

Alan Wake 2 follows two protagonists this time. One is Alan Wake himself, a horror writer lost in a nightmare world who tries escaping from his prison by writing a story. The other is investigator Saga Anderson, dispatched to Bright Falls on a mission to uncover the truth behind a series of grisly murders. Saga stumbles across a horror book that eventually begins coming to life around her and leading her back to Alan’s mysterious disappearance 13 years previously.

Remedy said you can play Saga’s and Alan’s stories in whatever order you like, as they both foreshadow each other and provide an alternate perspective on events. Anderson’s story takes place in three locations: Bright Falls, Cauldron Lake, and a small town called Watery. Alan, meanwhile, remains trapped in the hellish Dark Place.

The horror game might be a sequel, but Remedy says the horror game is designed so newcomers to the Alan Wake world can pick it up with no previous knowledge

If you’re hoping for a physical release, you’re in for a disappointment. Remedy is sticking to digital only to keep costs down and avoid having to ship a disc that requires a download.
