Noah Spence lasted seven games with the Washington Redskins before the team decided to move in a different direction.

The Redskins announced the cut Tuesday and promoted Carroll Phillips from the practice squad to take his place.

Washington had initially added Spence to the roster in the wake of a hip injury to Casanova McKinzy in mid-September.

Spence, a former second-round pick in 2016 by Tampa Bay, finishes his time in Washington with seven games, three total tackles and one sack. At this point of the season, he’ll be subject to the waiver wire.

The move here is a little strange for the Redskins as they shift to evaluation mode for the rest of the season. But it hints they want to see more of Phillips in a live setting, too.
