Before the Baltimore Ravens drafted safety Kyle Hamilton in the 2023 NFL draft, they signed safety Marcus Williams during free agency a few moths prior. Baltimore didn’t have a massive need at safety due to Williams’ arrival, but the Ravens’ mantra is to draft the best player available, with Hamilton fitting that bill.

When Williams got hurt early in the 2023 season, Hamilton’s role on the defense changed a lot. After one of Baltimore’s voluntary organized team activity practices, Hamilton was asked what playing next to Williams for more snaps could do to his game after not getting many reps together last season.

“Yes, Marcus [Williams] is one of the best in our league, and it sucks that he was hurt [for] a good amount of last year, because you all saw what he did before and after the injury and how great he is on the field. But just having somebody like that in the room every single day … He’s been through it. This is Year Seven, I think, for him, so he’s getting old. (laughter)But he tells me every day, not even football-wise, just, mentally, how to attack every day – how to watch film, how to adapt to certain coverages that we’re playing and stuff like that – [and] not to overthink it. He gives me a lot of confidence in my game, so he’s helped me a lot the past two years. And hopefully it’s going to be a bright future.”
