Ravens GM Eric DeCosta talks about potential contract extension with QB Lamar Jackson

Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta talked about a potential contract extension with quarterback Lamar Jackson

The Baltimore Ravens were able to secure their quarterback of the future in the 2018 NFL draft when they took Lamar Jackson with the last pick in the first round. He has turned into a franchise cornerstone, one that the team seemingly hopes to have around for a very long time.

Baltimore Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta spoke to the media on Wednesday during the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine. When asked about a potential extension with their star quarterback, DeCosta talked about how the team will continue to work at the pace of Jackson, something that he’s reiterated before.

“I hope so, at some point, that we will. I think we’ve discussed this at length, and I said this before: We will work at Lamar’s [Jackson] urgency. So, he and I have had ongoing discussions. We’ve talked fairly recently, as well. He knows how to find me; I know how to find him. I was very happy to see him working out on the west coast recently with some of our guys. That’s exciting [and] something that we really think will help us this year be the very best team that we can be. He’s a guy that when we think about the Ravens three, four, five years from now, we envision Lamar being a very, very big part of that team and definitely a player that can help us win Super Bowls.”

As time goes on, an extension for Jackson seems like it could be pushed further and further back. Both parties have made it clear that they’d like to continue their partnership long-term, so now it’s up to them to figure out a deal that works for them.
