Ravens DC Mike Macdonald shares first impressions of S Marcus Williams

Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald talked about his first impressions of safety Marcus Williams

The Baltimore Ravens made a big splash in 2022 free agency when they signed safety Marcus Williams to a five-year, $70 million contract. The former New Orleans Saints star is expected to be a massive part of the Baltimore defense, slotting in at the free safety position that was vacated by DeShon Elliott.

Williams is still getting acclimated to things in Baltimore, but he’s already on the field and working with his new teammates and coaches. When Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald was asked about his first impressions of Williams, the coach said that he’s everything he was expected to be so far.

“[Williams] is a great player. It’s great to have him in the building. Similar to Kyle [Hamilton], all the things that you’re expecting to get from a guy like Marcus, we’ve gotten so far. He’s two days in, so it’s really early to tell, but he’ll be a great player for us.”

During his five-year stay in New Orleans, the 25-year-old put up 320 total tackles, 15 interceptions and three forced fumbles. He’s a ballhawking safety in every sense of the word, and he’ll now team up with Kyle Hamilton and Chuck Clark in the Baltimore secondary to make one of the most fearsome safety trios in the NFL.
