Ravens awarded LB Del’Shawn Phillips off of waivers from Jets

The Ravens were awarded linebacker Del’Shawn Phillips off of waivers from the New York Jets

The Baltimore Ravens got their roster down to 53 players on Tuesday at 4pm EST, putting together their initial team. They moved on from multiple talented players, but after accumulating so much quality depth some tough decisions were in store.

The waiver period to claim players ended at 12pm EST on Wednesday, and Baltimore was awarded one player in linebacker Del’Shawn Phillips, formerly of the New York Jets. He will slot in with the Ravens’ defense, but could see most of his time on special teams, where he’s excelled over the course of his NFL career so far through two seasons on the field.

Phillips signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent out of Illinois in 2019, but was waived during final roster cuts. He latched on with the Buffalo Bills shortly thereafter, appearing in two games for the team before signing with the New York Jets in 2021. He can play both linebacker positions, and has totaled 31 tackles as well as one sack in 19 career games.
