The Buffalo Bills haven’t had a defensive effort out of a player like the one Rasul Douglas gave against the New York Jets in so long that… the team it last happened against doesn’t even exist anymore.
Douglas, who was recently acquired via the Green Bay Packers at the 2023 NFL trade deadline, was involved in three takeaways against the Jets (4-6). The Bills (6-5) saw Douglas haul in two interceptions while also recovering a fumble.
The last time that happened involving a player from Buffalo, it was defensive back Kurt Schultz, who played for the team from 1992 to 1999. During the 1998 season, Schultz accomplished the same feat in a contest against the St. Louis Rams (who have since moved to Los Angeles) which… the Bills surprisingly lost, 34-33.
Rasul Douglas became the first Bill since 1998 to tally two interceptions and a fumble recovery in a single game.

Douglas’ first of his two interceptions saw him jump a pass by New York quarterback Zach Wilson. The takeaway was the first pick by the Buffalo defense since Week 4, well before Douglas arrived in Orchard Park. Naturally, that means it was Douglas’ first takeaway with the Bills with two others on the way.
Douglas went on to interception Jets backup quarterback Tim Boyle in the contest as well after Wilson was benched. Douglas recovery a fumble forced by linebacker Tyrel Dodson, who ripped the ball away from receiver Garrett Wilson.
