Rams will host Houston QB Clayton Tune for a visit

The Rams are showing interest in Houston QB Clayton Tune, who could be a Day 3 pick for them

Since hiring Sean McVay as their head coach in 2017, the Los Angeles Rams have never drafted a quarterback. They traded picks for Matthew Stafford in 2021, but they’ve never actually selected one in the draft. That could change this year.

Despite having Stafford back as their starter, the Rams don’t currently have a backup. One option in the draft is Houston’s Clayton Tune, who’s projected to be a Day 3 pick this year.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Rams have a visit and/or workout scheduled for Tune, a clear sign of their interest in the quarterback leading up to the draft.

Tune had a very productive career in college, throwing for 4,074 yards and 40 touchdowns last season alone. In his career, he 11,994 yards, 104 touchdowns and 41 interceptions. He’s a bit undersized at 6-foot-2 but he has decent athleticism for a quarterback, running a 4.64 in the 40-yard dash with a 37.5-inch vertical.

If the Rams are looking for a rookie backup, they could do worse than Tune on Day 3 of the draft.
