Rams sign punter to practice squad, add K Brett Maher to active roster

The Rams made three roster moves on Tuesday, including the addition of a punter to the practice squad

Coming out of their first game of the season, the Los Angeles Rams made a handful of roster moves on Tuesday. The team announced it has signed two players to the practice squad: tight end Miller Forristall and punter Brandon Wright.

Additionally, the Rams signed Brett Maher to the active roster after elevating him temporarily last week. This move is not surprising because the Rams likely don’t want to risk a team signing Maher from their practice squad, leaving them with no kicker, and they clearly saw enough in Week 1 to commit to him as their guy for now.

The most interesting transaction is the signing of Wright. It could just be as insurance in case Ethan Evans gets hurt, but they might also just want to bring in some competition for him in practice.

There are no indications Los Angeles plans to replace Evans but teams don’t often have two punters on the team – even if one’s on the practice squad.
