Rams select Kansas State S Russ Yeast with 253rd overall pick in 2022 NFL draft

The Rams continue to take defensive backs in the 2022 NFL draft, with the next addition being Russ Yeast out of Kansas State.

The Los Angeles Rams have gone heavy on the defensive side of the ball during the 2022 NFL draft and the trend carried into the seventh round. Just 18 picks after taking an edge rusher, the Rams selected Russ Yeast out of Kansas State with the 253rd overall pick.

Yeast spent the first four years of his collegiate career at Louisville before transferring to Kansas State in 2021. In his lone season at Kansas State, Yeast seemed to be around the ball often, logging four interceptions and 10 pass breakups.

His father, Craig Yeast, has nine years of NFL experience after being taken in the fourth-round pick in the 1999 NFL draft. Yeast brings plenty of upside to a secondary that is going to be loaded with young players entering next season.

The Rams have Jordan Fuller, Taylor Rapp, Terrell Burgess, Nick Scott, and newly-drafted Quentin Lake at the safety position now. Given Yeast’s ability to cover wide receivers and his experience at kick returning could make him a multi-dimensional contributor as a rookie.
