It’s been the plan all along for the Los Angeles Rams to release an alternate uniform this year to coincide with their complete brand refresh of 2020. In fact, they will release a fourth set in 2022, as well, continuing to build on the rebranding in L.A.
Fans have been wondering when the Rams are going to finally release the new uniform, with many speculating that it was going to happen at last week’s open practice. Some fans have even gone as far as worrying that the alternate uniform was scrapped altogether.
Rest assured: it’s coming. Rams COO Kevin Demoff said on the “11 Personnel” podcast that the plan is to release them sometime between July 2 and the start of training camp; rookies and quarterbacks will report to camp on July 25, for reference.
“That is our goal. It could slide back, if some issues present,” he said. “I get asked every day on Twitter, ‘When are they coming?’ and I think someone actually has a countdown on a day-by-day basis. … Unfortunately, it’s still a little fluid …
“The new uniforms are coming. They can be worn up to three, two or three times (but we believe they can be worn up to three times) this year, and we expect to have them certainly by the start of the season, but likely training camp.”
Demoff said the pandemic affected the global supply chain, and that the large contingent of players changing their numbers didn’t help, either. For instance, Jalen Ramsey just officially changed his number from 20 to 5 within the last week.
But it’s at least encouraging to hear that the new uniform is still on track to release this year. As for what the jersey will look like, that’s anyone’s guess. Could it be a yellow top to go along with the Rams’ Bone and Royal jerseys? Might they release a true white uniform with yellow sleeves in the mold of the classic throwback look?
We’ll just have to wait and see.
