Rams given long odds to land Jamal Adams in a trade

Don’t expect to see Adams in a Rams uniform any time soon.

The Rams have been extremely aggressive since Sean McVay arrived as head coach in 2017, landing players such as Sammy Watkins, Marcus Peters, Aqib Talib, Brandin Cooks and Jalen Ramsey in trades under GM Les Snead. Could Jamal Adams be added to that list?

It’s highly unlikely, just based on the logistics of a deal, the Rams’ cap situation and their current talent already at safety. That’s not to say Adams wouldn’t help Los Angeles, but fans shouldn’t expect Snead to strike a deal for the disgruntled Jets safety.

According to BetMGM, the Rams are currently 50/1 to be the team Adams plays his first down for in 2020. That’s tied for 18th among all teams, making them an extreme long shot to trade for Adams. The implied probability of 50/1 odds is 2%.

The favorites are the Jets at 3/2, followed by the Cowboys 11/2 and Texans 8/1. Tied with Houston are the Rams’ rivals, the San Francisco 49ers, and not far behind are the Seahawks at 10/1.

Adams has made it clear that he wants out of New York with the front office reluctant to give him a new contract, requesting a trade this offseason. The Jets had trade talks last year before the deadline, but no deal came to fruition.

Adams was a Pro Bowler and first-team All-Pro last season, finishing the year with 75 tackles, one interception, two forced fumbles, 6.5 sacks and 13 QB hits. He was arguably the Jets’ best pass rusher and is truly a do-it-all safety.

A player like him would elevate the entire Rams defense, but with John Johnson and Taylor Rapp penciled in as the starters, safety certainly isn’t a pressing need for the Rams. Not to mention, Adams wants a lucrative extension, which the Rams would have trouble finding the money to do.

In other words, don’t expect to see Adams in a Rams uniform any time soon.
