Rams edge rushers excelled against the Giants in Week 6

Three edge rushers on the Los Angeles Rams had productive games against the New York Giants in Week 6.

Looking at the score of the matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and the New York Giants, the Rams dominated for the majority of the game. The defense had one of the best performances of the season, forcing four turnovers and sacking Daniel Jones four times.

While some people have been critical of the defense to begin the season, three edge rushers on the Rams finished inside the top 10 in pass-rush win rate in Week 6, per ESPN’s Seth Walder.

Seeing Ogbonnia Okoronkwo inside the top five of pass-rush win rate isn’t much of a surprise as he received a team-high 91.6 grade on PFF in Week 6. Besides logging his first sack of the season on Sunday, Okoronkwo recorded three total pressures on Jones, and he was consistently in the backfield.

Leonard Floyd had arguably his best game of the season despite playing in a season-low 51% of the defensive snaps for the Rams. The veteran edge rusher posted 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and he tied for the team-high in pressures with four. Floyd had no issues wreaking havoc with Nate Solder blocking him on the majority of plays.

Along with the positive sight of Okoronkwo flashing pass-rushing chops versus the Giants, it was great to see Terrell Lewis put together another productive outing. Lewis had his third consecutive game with a sack, and he also tied with Floyd and Aaron Donald with four total pressures on Jones.

Some would argue that it’s the Donald effect as to why the edge rushers of the Rams can create so much pressure. While Donald definitely plays a part in allowing more free rushes for the guys off of the edge, credit needs to be given to the edge rushers on the Rams, especially with Justin Hollins on injured reserve.
