A legend has called it a career. One of the Arizona Cardinals’ toughest individual opponents, Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald, announced his retirement from the NFL Friday on social media.
He is perhaps the best to ever play at his position.
It was a 10-year career in which he was selected to the Pro Bowl every season. He is an eight-time first-team All-Pro. He was Defensive Player of the Year four times. He finishes with 111 career sacks, 176 tackles for loss, 260 quarterback hits and 24 forced fumbles.
He played against the Cardinals 20 times in the regular season and once in the playoffs. In the regular season, the Rams were 14-6 in those games. Donald had 16 sacks, more than he had against any other opponent in his career, 26 tackles for loss and 34 quarterback hits. His 26 tackles for loss against the Cardinals are more than he had against any other team and his 34 quarterback hits against Arizona were more than against any other team but the 45 he had against Seattle.
In one postseason game en route to the Rams’ one championship in Donald’s career, he had a tackle and half a sack.
The league will miss Donald. The Cardinals won’t and neither will the fans.
