Rams bring back J.R. Reed on practice squad, cut G Jared Hocker

After J.R. Reed cleared waivers, the Rams brought him back on the practice squad.

After claiming Jamir Jones off waivers from the Steelers, the Rams had to make room for him on the 53-man roster. They did so by waiving safety J.R. Reed, but he didn’t spend much time unemployed.

The Rams signed him to the practice squad Monday after he cleared waivers, smartly keeping him in the building. They waived guard Jared Hocker from the practice squad to free up a spot for Reed.

Reed was the Rams’ second-highest graded defender in the preseason, according to Pro Football Focus, with an overall grade of 87.8. He has not yet played a regular-season snap yet this season, but he could be a player they promote from the practice squad on Sundays.
