Every year, an undrafted free agent or two winds up making the 53-man roster. A few years ago, it was Alec Ingold and Andre James. Before that, it was Nicholas Morrow and Jalen Richard.
So who could be the next undrafted free agent who could surprise camp and make the 53-man roster?
In a recent article by Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report, he named every team’s undrafted free agent that could crack the 53-man roster for their respective squad.
For the Raiders, that was none other than former UTSA running back Sincere McCormick. Here is a snippet of Sobleksi’s thoughts on McCormick and his fit with the Raiders:
“McCormick is a talented runner who posted 3,929 rushing yards over the last three seasons, including more than 1,400 in each of the last two years. But he’s another typical story of not being big enough (5’8″, 204 pounds) or fast enough (4.6-second 40-yard dash) for teams’ liking.
McCormick is a tough and decisive runner who plays behind his pads. He may not wow in any certain area, but he’s already comfortable working as a third-down back”
The Raiders did add a bunch of running backs this offseason, including two in the NFL Draft. However, McCormick’s production and power could make him a candidate to sneak onto the roster over someone like Brandon Bolden.
If McCormick has a strong training camp and preseason, don’t rule him out finding a spot on the roster. Josh McDaniels has never been afraid to keep four or five running backs on the active roster, provided they can play on special teams. That’s where McCormick will have to make his money early in his NFL career.
