As long as Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden continue to vague about the status of Derek Carr with the Raiders, mock drafters will continue to give Las Vegas a new franchise quarterback.
In his Tuesday press conference, Mayock mentioned that the team will try to upgrade every position this offseason, including at quarterback. And considering the fact that this draft as potentially four franchise quarterbacks, the Raiders will certainly do their due diligence on each of them.
In the latest mock draft by Bucky Brooks of NFL.com, he has the Raiders selecting Utah State passer Jordan Love at pick No. 12. Brooks recently mentioned how Love would thrive with Gruden and the Raiders, calling Las Vegas the “ideal fit” for him. Take a look at why Brooks loves the fit of Love with the Raiders.
After watching their division rivals hoist the Lombardi Trophy due to a draft-day quarterback gamble that changed the course of the franchise, the Raiders could roll the dice on an ultra-talented prospect with MVP potential.
Taking Love at pick No. 12 seems awfully expensive, especially considering how lackluster his stats were in 2019. However, he may have the most natural talent of any quarterback in this class, including Joe Burrow. He’s highly athletic, has a cannon for an arm and has the prototypical NFL body.
But if the Raiders want to select Love, they will likely need to do so at pick No. 12 as it is unlikely that he falls to their next selection. Keep an eye on Love as a sleeper pick for the Raiders in the first round.
