Raiders select LSU DT Tyler Shelvin in Dane Brugler’s 2021 mock draft

It’s never too early to look ahead to next year’s draft. But the 2021 draft will feel much different for the Raiders as they are currently scheduled to only pick once in the first round after having five first-round choices over the last two years.

The first 2021 mock draft is here and it is via Dane Brugler of The Athletic. In his mock draft, he has the Raiders picking at No. 9 and selecting LSU defensive tackle Tyler Shelvin, who is a 346-pound nose tackle with dominant traits. Take a look Brugler’s evaluation of the soon-to-be junior defensive tackle:

It was impossible not to notice Shelvin when studying LSU’s defense last season. He needs to show more impact as a pass rusher this season, but with his size and power, he dominates the point of attack and shuts down the run.

Guessing which players will land where a year from now is somewhat of a useless exercise. But these mock drafts have value as they give NFL Draft fans a “watch list” of players heading into the upcoming college football season.

It’s tough to project what needs the Raiders may have a year from now, but defensive tackle certainly could be one of them given that Maliek Collins is on just a one-year deal. Keep an eye on Shelvin along with Marvin Wilson from Florida State as potential first-round picks next year that could interest the Raiders at the defensive tackle position.
