Raiders RT Thayer Munford works with first-team offense once again

Earlier this week, second-year offensive tackle Thayer Munford was inserted into the starting lineup after multiple presnap penalties by Jermaine Eluemunor. But that isn’t all that uncommon during practice if a player is making mental mistakes.

However, it appears that this isn’t a one-time thing as Munford continues to get looks with the first team. According to Tashan Reed of The Athletic, Munford was the team’s starting right tackle during Wednesday’s practice, ahead of Eluemunor:

For the second practice in a row, Thayer Munford was the starting right tackle during 11-on-11 drills. Jermaine Eluemunor had that spot locked down for most of OTAs and the first week of training camp, but it looks like Munford has made up some ground in the competition.

Eluemunor is still the favorite to be the team’s Week 1 right tackle, but the fact that Munford has turned this into a competition is fascinating. There is also a chance that Eluemunor could be the starting right guard, replacing Alex Bars. But that hasn’t been the case so far in camp.

Can Munford actually beat out Eluemunor during camp and the preseason? That remains to be seen. But it does appear that the Raiders have a battle at right tackle for the third consecutive year.
