It’s no secret that the Raiders need to upgrade their wide receiving corps before the 2020 season begins. It was the one spot on the offensive side of the ball that potentially held them back from making the playoffs in 2019.
Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden tried to upgrade the position during the season, as they traded for two different receivers in Trevor Davis and Zay Jones. However, they nearly made a third trade before the deadline.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Raiders tried to complete a deal with the New York Jets for veteran receiver Robby Anderson. The deal eventually fell apart after the Jets asked for a third-round pick, which was too steep for Mayock and Gruden, considering he is set to become a free agent in just a few weeks.

Anderson is one of the league’s best deep threat, averaging nearly 15 yards per catch in his NFL career. While most don’t view him as a true No. 1 receiver, he would be a significant upgrade over anybody on the current Raiders’ roster. It will be interesting to see if the Raiders decide to go after Anderson again this offseason, time in the free-agent market.
