Raiders CB Damon Arnette allowed just three touchdowns in college career

One of the biggest surprises in the 2020 NFL Draft was the Raiders drafting cornerback Damon Arnette at pick No. 19. It wasn’t a shock to see the Raiders select a cornerback, but Arnette’s name wasn’t mentioned at all in connection with the team pre-draft.

If you feel uneasy about the pick, consider this. During his college career at Ohio State, Arnette started 38 games for the Buckeyes. And according to Pro Football Focus, he allowed just three touchdowns and never more than a single score each season.

Arnette’s best season came in 2019, where he allowed just 25 receptions for 306 yards all season long. According to Pro Football Focus, quarterbacks had a passer rating of just 60.6 against the former Ohio State defender.

It will be fascinating to see how Arnette fits in the Raiders’ defense. He is expected to be paired with Trayvon Mullen as a starter, but Arnette will have to earn that spot. But given how productive he was at Ohio State, that shouldn’t be a problem.
