Raiders add Michigan QB in latest 2024 NFL mock draft

It’s never too early to look ahead to next year’s draft, right?

In a recent mock draft by Dane Brugler of The Athletic, he has the Raiders selecting Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy with the No. 15 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Here is what Brugler had to say about the Big 10 passer:

The fourth quarterback drafted in this mock, and you don’t need to squint to see the talent with McCarthy. He is a loose athlete for his size with NFL-level arm strength and the poise to make plays.

With Jimmy Garoppolo signing a short-term deal with the Raiders, it does make sense that they would look at quarterbacks again next year. The Raiders can (pretty) easily get out of Garoppolo’s contract after a year and might do so if he can’t stay on the field.

McCarthy is just one of several toolsy quarterbacks that are expected to enter the 2024 NFL Draft. If he can have another strong season in 2023, it wouldn’t be a shock at all if he were the No. 3 quarterback off the board after Caleb Williams and Drake Maye.

While there is still an entire season to play out, the 2024 draft is looking like an all-time great quarterback class. It might not be a bad idea for the Raiders to consider taking one high in next year’s draft should the Garoppolo signing not work out.
