Following one of the best games of his college career, Quinn Ewers is adding more weekly honors to his resume. On Monday, the Longhorns star QB was named to the Davey O’Brien Great 8 lists. The honor comes as no surprise after Ewers looked unstoppable against the Gators.
In the Longhorns’ win over Florida, Ewers completed 19 of his 27 passes for 333 yards. He set a new career high in touchdown passes with five, which almost tied the school record. As Ewers looked unstoppable, he also reached a few career milestones.
On Saturday, the talented junior became the fourth SEC quarterback since 1996 to throw five touchdown passes of 20-plus yards in a conference game. That list includes Tua Tagovailoa, Joe Cox, and Jared Lorenzen. He also extended his passing touchdown streak to 20 consecutive games, which is currently tied for the longest streak in the FBS.

As the Longhorns chase a national championship, Ewers is in the midst of the best seasons of his college career. He has multiple passing touchdowns in six of his seven starts this season, with three-plus touchdowns in back-to-back games. Although he was benched during the Georgia game, Ewers has quickly flipped the page and provided a reminder of his value.
With the regular season winding down, Ewers should continue to be a prominent name in weekly and yearly awards. On Tuesday, he was also named a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award.
