Purdue at Ohio State odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Purdue Boilermakers at Ohio State Buckeyes odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Purdue Boilermakers (6-3, 4-2 Big Ten) and No. 5 Ohio State Buckeyes (8-1, 6-0) tussle in a Saturday 12:30 p.m. ET game at Ohio Stadium in Columbus. Below, we look at the Purdue vs. Ohio State odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Purdue upset then-No. 6 Michigan State 40-29 last week. The Boilermakers racked up 536 passing yards, marking the second-most passing yards MSU has ever allowed. For the season, Purdue ranks eighth in FBS, piling up 332.6 passing yards per contest. The Boilermakers are in search of their first win in Columbus since 1988.

The Buckeyes are coming off a 26-17 win at the Nebraska Cornhuskers. A normally efficient Ohio State offense (ranked second in the nation in total yards with 542.2 per game and second in points per game with 44.9 per contest) struggled to move the ball at times. The Bucks were held to just nine second-half points, and their 26 total points marked their lowest for a single game since January’s National Championship Game against Alabama (24 points).

Purdue at Ohio State odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Ohio State 45, Purdue 17

Money line

PASS on what is a wide berth for the house. Peg true odds as being lost in between these prices.

Against the spread

Purdue is a pass-first — and almost a pass-only — operation on offense. The Boilermakers have an elite playmaker in WR David Bell, who has 64 receptions for 1,003 yards this season. They are in some ways a Big Ten version of Tulsa, which gave Ohio State all kinds of trouble in Week 3 (within 7 points until the 3:07 mark of the fourth quarter).

The week-3 version of Buckeye Football was a lesser one on both sides of the ball. QB C.J. Stroud has gotten healthier and upped his performance, and the OSU defense has made wholesale changes in coaching, strategy and personnel. The Bucks have piled up 3.67 sacks per game (fourth FBS), and will be a different look for Purdue QB Aidan O’Connell.

A play on the home side here is leveraging the Buckeyes at a low point and the Boilermakers at a high point. TAKE OHIO STATE -20.5 (-112).

Over/Under

The weather for this one calls for a breezy 40-degree afternoon. Figure some OSU game control, with a decent dose of Buckeye running.

BACK THE UNDER 63.5 (-108), but the margin here is thin. Consider some partial-unit action.
