Purdue at Michigan State picks and predictions

Prediction

Purdue 68, Michigan State 67

Moneyline

Rebounding at both ends will loom large in this game. Michigan State has been quite good — and improving of late — on the defensive glass. It’s coming off 1 of its best efforts in corralling offensive rebounds.

The Spartans have played a tougher schedule to date, and they’ve faced some top-notch offensive teams. The Boilermakers figure to have the advantage when piling up free throws in this game, but expect the Spartans to have the upper hand from beyond the arc, where prizes really add up.

Still, a PASS is recommended here. Michigan State is the lean, but we would want a +155 to account for expected odds near 40%.

Against the spread

The Boilermakers are 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 games following a straight-up win. The Spartans are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a straight-up loss. In this series, the home team is 6-2-1 ATS in the last 9 meetings. MSU took both games ATS from Purdue last season (straight up 1-1).

The way veteran Michigan State played Gonzaga (Nov. 11) and Alabama (Nov. 24) make for some optimism in this spot. (The latter was a loss but a game well-played in many respects by the Spartans.)

Look for Purdue to be tested down to the wire Monday afternoon.

BACK MICHIGAN STATE +3.5 (-105).

Over/Under

A slow pace is expected, but these are 2 efficient offenses and ones trending upward of late.

PASS on the current total, but this game is worth a line watch. Partial-unit action on the Over can be considered at 132 or better.
