Projecting the 4 Bears tight ends on 53-man roster

Following the trade of Adam Shaheen, we’re projecting the four tight ends that will make the 53-man roster heading into 2020.

4. J.P. Holtz

While it’ll ultimately come down to J.P. Holtz and Jesper Horsted, I think Holtz gets the nod here. Last season, Holtz had the most snaps and receiving yards of any Chicago tight end. While it wasn’t the most impressive stat-line, Holtz had seven receptions for 91 yards. While Horsted makes sense as a clear-cut receiving threat, ultimately Horsted’s versatility should give him the edge.

Not only is he a phenomenal blocker and a good pass catcher, but there were times when Holtz lined up as a fullback last season. With an expected increased emphasis on the running game this season, keeping someone like Holtz on the roster certainly makes sense.
