Pro Football Focus ranks Seahawks as the NFL’s worst team right now

“The hardest thing to hear for any of us is something we don’t agree with.”

“The hardest thing to hear for any of us is something we don’t agree with.”

So said Victor Wong’s Professor Birack in the first act of John Carpenter’s iconic 1987 horror-flick Prince of Darkness as he tried convincing a quantum physics student the green sludge locked in the church basement was Satan becoming flesh.

The outside world might be coming apart, but the status for these Seahawks isn’t quite end-of-the-world yet. However, fans should get used to hearing things they don’t like.

No team should be written off before they play a single game but practically everyone is predicting a poor season for this franchise.

For example, Bill Barnwell at ESPN just name Seattle as having the worst offseason in the league. If that meatball isn’t hard enough to digest, there’s this: for dessert PFF has ranked them as the worst team in football.

“When you remove Russell Wilson from the equation in Seattle, it becomes immediately apparent how bad the situation around him had become over the years, with Wilson’s play hiding the true extent of the damage. It doesn’t help that the quarterback competition between Drew Lock and Geno Smith represents the worst quarterback situation in the league.”

Seems just a bit harsh considering Marcus Mariota and Sam Darnold might just start Week 1 for their respective teams and a couple rookies project as the No. 2 guy(s).

While they aren’t good, there are at least six or seven teams around the NFL that are in worse shape than this one. It’s also pretty difficult to imagine any Pete Carroll-coached team totally collapsing – even in the absence of that pesky little future Hall of Famer who used to play quarterback.

If nothing else, this club’s defensive and special teams units should be on point this year. So, even if Smith and Lock bomb we’d be shocked if they’re in the running for a No. 1 overall pick come 2023.
