Pro Football Focus: Giants had 10th best draft in 2020

Pro Football Focus believes the New York Giants did one of the better overall jobs in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The New York Giants and their embattled general manager, Dave Gettleman, needed to have a successful draft in 2020 and by all accounts the early returns are mostly positive.

Pro Football Focus has ranked the Giants’ draft the 10th best out of 32 teams.

10. NEW YORK GIANTS

When we have to go into Day 3 to find the first pick we’d disagree with, the chances are that we liked your draft. That’s exactly the case for the Giants, who got a couple of steals according to the PFF draft board. The good news for Giants fans is that both of these steals impact the passing game defensively. Xavier McKinney ranked 19th on the PFF board heading in but was still available for the Giants at pick 36, while Darnay Holmes was the 86th-ranked player on our board and the Giants stole him at pick 110. While they didn’t have too many other big surpluses, the Giants also didn’t have any picks that we considered large reaches, either.

That is good news overall, but still, the best part of their draft was in the secondary, a until they’ve already been zeroing in on the past several offseasons. Most fans are pleased with the additions and upgrades to the offensive line and the incoming linebacker help, which makes this draft a success in their eyes.

Seven of the Giants’ 10 selection were on defense: a safety (McKinney), two cornerbacks (Holmes, Chris Williamson) and four linebackers (Cam Brown, Carter Coghlin, T.J. Brunson, Tae Crowder). Their offensive picks were all linemen — two tackles (Andrew Thomas, Matt Peart) and a guard/center (Shane Lemieux).
