The watch is on for free agency. We’re now two weeks away from the “legal tampering period” and with the NFL Combine now closed, there is going to be an influx of reports and whispers about landing spots for some of the NFL’s premiere free agents. Business isn’t formally conducted in Indianapolis, but agents, team reps and personnel all collide in the Circle City to help align the deck for a slew of signings when the league calendar opens in mid-March.
It’s going to be a fun few weeks. The latest news? It’s good news for Miami — and just as important it is bad news for the New York Jets. ESPN’s Adam Schefter has reported that the New York Jets, while interested in free agent tackle Jack Conklin, aren’t expected to secure his services on the open market.

The Jets’ bid to make the most of their winning window with a quarterback on a rookie contract will stem on their ability to acquire talent to help sure up holes on the roster — tackle happens to be a sore spot for both Miami and the Jets. And if the Jets aren’t expected to get Conklin, it increases the chances that the Dolphins, with their plethora of salary cap space, are going to be able to make a strong bid of their own to bring the powerful right tackle to South Florida later this month.
Should that materialize, the team will be able to cross off a key need from their slew of vacancies on the roster — and that should allow them to continue to hone their focus for their premiere draft picks in April to fully flesh out the most pressing issues.
