Can Jordan Matthews do what Kelvin Benjamin could not?

The saga that is Kelvin Benjamin came to an end last week.

The former Bills wide receiver tried out with the Giants during minicamp as a tight end. It worked and he was signed but then in a crazy sequence of events, he was then released.

But Benjamin was not the only former wideout with the Bills that wanted to try and make that position change. Jordan Matthews was attempting to do the same.

Matthews previously bulked up and had tried out in front of some teams with other free agents. That did not lead to him immediately finding a job, but eventually he did.

Over the weekend, the 49ers inked Matthews to their training camp roster, according to Niners Wire. He’s listed as a tight end.

Matthews, 29, is getting this opportunity because he correctly handled his body and weight, adding the proper bulk. The Giants asked Benjamin to do the same and he decided not to and made a bit of a stink when he was cut.

While some had been curious to see if Benjamin would pan out, there won’t be many supporters for Matthews in Buffalo. He did rip western New York a bit upon departing the team.

But time will tell if he actually pulls off what Benjamin could not.

Matthews did previously play for the 49ers but as a wide receiver just last year. His lone season with the Bills was in 2017.
