The Alabama Crimson Tide entered this contest against LSU as the No. 2 ranked team in the nation, according to the College Football Playoff committee. Not only do they need to win out in order to be considered for the playoff, but the team was looking for revenge over the Tigers after the last game between these two in Tuscaloosa ended with a Tigers win.
This time around, Alabama wins 20-14.
The first half was extremely ugly for Alabama on both sides of the ball. Despite leading at halftime 14-7, it felt as if Nick Saban and the coaching staff wasn’t prepared for what Ed Orgeron and LSU brought to the table.
Bryce Young finished the game with 24 completions on 37 attempts for 302 and two touchdowns.
The receiving corps held its own, with the ball being evenly spread out between the usual two leaders: John Metchie and Jameson Williams, who combined for 19 receptions, 233 yards and two touchdowns.
The ground game was extremely limited, but led by Brian Robinson. He only managed to tally 13 carries for only 18 yards
Will Anderson was once again the star of the defense. LSU’s offense, led by quarterback Max Johnson had 186 passing yards, 2 passing touchdowns and an interception. The ground game totaled 40 carries for 109 carries, but couldn’t reach the end zone.
Many expected this game to be very one-sided. However, sloppy play on offense, defense and special teams resulted in a nail-biter instead of a blowout.
Alabama will now look to next week’s matchup against New Mexico State, but the team has a lot to work on regarding all fronts.
