Poll: What should Chargers do with OT Russell Okung?

Should the Los Angeles Chargers keep, release or trade Russell Okung?

The Chargers have some tough decisions to make this offseason in regards to whether or not they will be keeping some of their own in-house players that are expected to hit the free agency market.

However, there are some players that are still under contract that could be cap casualties that will be thought long and hard over.

Among the crop is offensive tackle Russell Okung.

When healthy, Okung is a Pro Bowl-caliber left tackle. But he is entering the final year of his deal and there is some concern over how he will rebound from a frustrating 2019 season.

Okung missed all of training camp and nearly half the regular season after suffering a pulmonary embolism. Upon returning, he only played in six games, with only one of those contests being where he played 100% of the snaps due to various lower body injuries.

Okung is due to have a salary-cap hit of just over $16.7 million for 2020. As it stands, that’s the highest cap hit on the team. The Chargers could cut the 31-year old and save about $13 million in cap space.

Finding capable offensive tackles in the NFL, especially on the left side, isn’t an easy thing to do. That is why the team is likely hoping he can return to his original and stay healthy in 2020, as he is someone that L.A. knows they can count on.

However, when availability concerns loom large over the player that has the highest salary cap hit on the team, releasing, restructuring or trading remains a strong possibility.

With that, we want to hear what you think Los Angeles should do in regards to Okung. Keep him and bank on him staying healthy, release him, restructure his contract or trade him.
