Pokémon Legends: Arceus – How to get Black Augurite

Black Augurite is a special item in Pokémon Legends: Arceus that’s necessary for one of the game’s new evolutions.

Black Augurite is a special item in Pokémon Legends: Arceus that is necessary for evolving Scyther into Kleavor, one of Hisui’s seven new Pokémon. Unfortunately, the game never tells you that this is the item you need to get the Hisuian evolution of Scyther, let alone where you’re supposed to go to actually obtain it.

Fortunately, we’ve spent dozens of hours with Legends: Arceus and have been doing our homework over the course of that time. Whether you’re here because you want to know how to evolve Scyther, or you’re just generally stumped for where on Earth that fabled Black Augurite could be, we’ve got you covered.

Here’s where to find Black Augurite in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus — How to get Black Augurite

Ursaluna digging up a Black Augurite

At the time of writing, there are two ways of obtaining Black Augurite in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The first way is depicted in the screenshot above — after unlocking Ursaluna as a Ride Pokémon, you can use its ability to hunt treasure to uncover buried Black Augurite in the Crimson Mirelands. They’re kind of rare, but treasure spots are sufficiently abundant for it to be a sure thing you’ll find one before too long.

We haven’t found any Black Augurite in any of Hisui’s other locales, so if you’re planning on following this method, make sure you’re in the Crimson Mirelands first.

The second method is to start chain-catching Graveler. As with many Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, any Graveler you catch could potentially be holding an item. Black Augurite drops are arguably more rare here than they are in treasure spots, but there are so many Graveler around that this method will probably save you a huge amount of time in the long run. Just remember to keep a couple of free slots in your satchel so that you can actually receive the Black Augurite once it drops.

On a related note, if you ever see any Graveler mass outbreaks, it’s definitely worthwhile to tend to them immediately. You’ll be able to see up to 15 Graveler here if you’re lucky, which makes the odds of obtaining a Black Augurite quite a bit higher. Speaking of odds, mass outbreaks also increase your chances of encountering shiny Pokémon — a golden brown Graveler and a Black Augurite? Not too shabby.
